Desktop Support Technician

You may qualify for FREE industry certified ICT and Management training

Desktop Support is an increasingly important function in many organisations, either as an in-house service to ‘internal customers’ or as a support service to external clients. In both these situations there is a need for dedicated technical support across a variety of technology so that deployed ICT systems can be fully optimised.

This skilled support role requires individuals who are well grounded in the basic principles of a range of ICT systems including hardware, software and networking plus good front line management skills.

The Scottish Academy has been set up as a National Centre to meet this need for individuals and organisations operating within the Scottish business community.

Participants work towards Microsoft Desktop Support Technician (MCDST) together with the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) Introductory Diploma in Management which includes a work based practical project.

For many companies (especially SMEs) the Scottish eSkills Academy is offering this innovative work based training FREE of charge this year.

What does the training entail?
The Desktop Support Technicians training programme consists of a blended mix of day release and online course material augmented by a mentored work based project. Training is delivered by qualified tutors using Microsoft Official Curriculum and ILM approved course materials.

The Desktop Support Technicians training programme is built around the following content:

Outwith the practical sessions, participants are required to implement the newly acquired skills through a work based project assigned by their line manager and mentored by experienced tutors.

With the above certification, Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technicians may progress to follow-on training covering, for example, MCSA, MCSE and MCDBA.
