Computers and the internet are going to remain an integral part of our lives -- in fact we're going to find more and more ways to use them in business. Application Developers are essential for translating business requirements into on-line applications that align with and
support the organisation’s implementation of its business strategy. To be successful in this role it is necessary for individuals to be trained to the level of vendor certification in the technology to develop business applications, and in business and leadership skills.
The Scottish  Academy has been set up as a National Centre for the Scottish Business Community to provide innovative training to individuals and organisations working in an e-world.
Participants work towards Sun Microsystems Certified Java Programmer (SCJP) certification together with the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) Introductory Diploma in Management which includes a work-based practical project.
What does the training entail?
The Application Developer training programme consists of a blended mix of day release and online course material augmented by a mentored work based project. Training is delivered by qualified tutors using Sun Java Curriculum and ILM approved course materials.
The day release practical sessions are organised over 20 week cycles with access to supporting online learning materials throughout.

Outwith the practical sessions, participants are required to implement the newly acquired skills through a work based project assigned by their line manager and mentored by experienced tutors.
With the above vendor certification, Application Developers can progress to follow-on training programmes covering for example the Sun Certified Web Component Developer certificate.
